Data Collection

 

Alberta’s market currently provides an excellent source of historical pricing, bidding and other data free of charge from the AESO. In addition, for-fee service providers collect and distribute historical real-time data that is posted but not necessarily stored by the AESO. Some data service providers also provide data collection, data cleaning, storage, analytics and reporting for power, gas, and commodity markets.

 

Thinking of these services please answer the following:

Public Data Collected Internally:

Example: AESO, NWRFC, BPA, Army Corp Engineers, others…

- Can you please list the sites that you currently collect public data from?

- What data streams do you collect for these sites?

- What granularity of data do you collect?

- What market value do you deem this information provides?

- How far back do you store this data?

- What other data sources are you considering for collection?

- Where is the data stored and how is it later accessed?

- How do you incorporate this data into pre/post-trade analysis?

Fee-based Data Collection Services

Examples: NRGStream, Genscape, LIM, others…

- Can you please list the data collection, validation and storage services you engage?

- What data streams do you collect from these services?

- What external subscriptions do these services provide to you?

- What granularity of data do you collect?

- What market value do you deem this information provides?

- How far back do you store this data?

- What other data sources are you considering for collection?

- Where is the data stored and how is it later accessed?

- How do you incorporate this data into pre/post-trade analysis?

Other Data Sources
