Contracting Company Self-Audit Questions on Migrant Worker Welfare Provisions
You are invited to participate in the following Self Audit, which is a key survey to Qatar Foundation's Karama initiative. In this survey, all contractors and sub-contractors involved in activities with QF will be asked to complete the self-audit which asks questions about the welfare of workers in their respective companies. Below is a brief description of the purpose of the audit and the initiative.
Qatar Foundation (QF) has launched the “Karama Initiative” to positively transform quality of life for all Migrant Workers engaged in construction and other projects of QF. In order to achieve this goal, QF has taken a holistic approach in seeking to improve recruitment, living and working conditions and general treatment of Migrant Workers. To this end, QF has established a Mandatory Welfare Standards protocol, adherence to which is the key pre-condition for QF to select and retain its Contractors and Sub-Contractors. The purpose of the Mandatory Welfare Standards and all other associated programs and procedures is to facilitate QF Contractors and Sub-Contractors to ensure that Migrant Workers enjoy their human and labor rights at all times through:
(i) a systematic and planned approach to raising their living and working conditions;
(ii) quality of life and dignity through improvements in the flow of information and greater coordination throughout recruitment, placement, sojourn and repatriation of Migrant Workers;
(iii) compliance with statutory requirements as well as the Mandatory Welfare Standards;
(iv) awareness of the problems of Migrant Workers and the need for responsibility and accountability at all levels.
One of the components of the implementation of the Karama Initiative is this online self-audit survey, which is to be filled in by the designated personnel of all QF Contractors and Sub-Contractors. The purpose of the self-audit is to collect information that, in combination with regular audits, will contribute to the deeper understanding of the problems and support in the development of solutions and Welfare Adherence Plans. The self-audit covers such areas as recruitment, living, transportation, food and working conditions of Migrant Workers.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING THE SELF-AUDIT FORM
It is assured that the data provided by you shall be used only for ascertaining and evaluating the migrant welfare practices of your company for the QF Karama Initiative. The data furnished and your company identity will not be disclosed to a third party outside the QF HSSE/Karama Committee. Follow-up issues arising from the Self-Audit will be privately communicated from QF.
Please fill in the following questionnaire on the basis of the facts of your company.
All Questions carry a certain weighting. Please answer all questions.
The Questionnaire contains different types of questions. For example:
(a) Some questions require specific information about the company e.g. Name, Address etc.
(b) Some questions are of Yes/No category, where only one option can be selected
(c) Some questions allow the selection of more than one option
(d) Some questions require answers in short sentences.
Some questions require you to gather data from your company and submit it to Karama by email separately ([email protected]). Please make sure to label this information clearly so we will know who it is from.

The self-audit questionnaire should be completed on or before Sunday 2nd December 2012.
