The following definitions of vehicles types are provided for the survey respondents’ reference, as many of the proceeding questions will refer to these vehicle types. These definitions can also be found at this link [INSERT LINK].

Hybrid electric vehicles have an internal combustion engine and electric motor. These vehicles are powered by an alternative fuel or a conventional fuel, such as gasoline and a battery, which does not require plugging in to charge.

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles have an internal combustion engine and electric motor. These vehicles are powered by gasoline, and a larger battery, which you can plug in to charge to drive like an electric vehicle for a short distance (e.g., 30 miles or less). Afterwards, the plug-in hybrid acts like a regular hybird.

Gasoline vehicles have an internal combustion engine and are refueled with gasoline.

Electric vehicles operate with an electric motor only. These vehicles are plugged in to charge. When the battery is out of charge, the vehicle must be recharged before operating again.
