Project Description

Parents of children with selective mutism will access the online survey via a link on various established websites that support parents of children with disabilities. Parents will share personal information about themselves and their children diagnosed with selective mutism. Data will be analyzed to identify the decision-making process of parents in selecting treatment for their children with selective mutism. This study will be published in the library at The University of Texas at Austin.

Project Abstract

The goal of this study is to gain a better understanding of the decision-making process that parents use in selecting treatments for their children with Selective Mutism. This combination qualitative and quantitative study will utilize the use of an online survey to collect data. Through purposeful and snowball sampling, parents of children diagnosed with selective mutism will participate in an online survey to share information about themselves and their children with selective mutsim. Qualitative response data will be analyzed using a constant comparative method (Goetz and LeCompte, 1984). Quantitative data will be analyzed in SPSS. Results from this study will inform parents, educators, and medical professionals.
