Exploration of Cyber-Based Technology in Marriage/Couple and

Family Therapy and Supervision

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to examine the use of cyber-based technology in the context of marriage/couple and family therapy (M/CFT) and supervision (M/CFS). The specific research goals in the current study are to: 1) explore the benefits and drawbacks of the use of cyber-based technology; 2) examine the ethical considerations and frequency the use of such services; 3) examine the differences and similarities within in cyber-based technology usage; and 4) explore the degree to which M/CFTs and M/CFSs assess for cyber-systemic issues in their practices.

Participants
You are being asked to participate because you are a licensed marriage and family therapist or a clinical or student member in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). You were selected through the contact information provided to the researchers by your state licensing boards, by the listing of accredited programs provided by AAMFT, or by contact information provided to us by InFocus, the marketing company of AAMFT.

Procedures
You will be asked to do complete an online survey regarding the use of technology in your practices.


Benefits of Participation
There are not direct benefits you in this study. However, we hope to learn how therapists are implementing technology in their clinical and supervisory practices.


Risks of Participation
There are risks involved in all research studies. This study may include only minimal risks; such as possible discomfort in answering the questions.


Cost /Compensation
There will not be financial cost to you in this study. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes of their time. As an incentive, you will be given the option to register for a drawing that will take place at the end of data collection. You will be given the chance to enter your name into a drawing to win one of four $25 gift certificates to Amazon.com.

Voluntary Participation
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may refuse to participate or withdraw at any time without prejudice to their relations with the university. You are encouraged to ask questions about this study at the beginning or any time during the research study.

Confidentiality
All information gathered in this study will be kept completely confidential. No reference will be made in written or oral materials that could link you to this study. All records will be stored in a locked facility at UNLV for 3 years after the completion of the study.
After the storage time the information gathered will be destroyed.


To be compliant with the Waiver of Documentation under 45CFR46.117(c), we will provide you with an opportunity to be linked with the study if you choose.
