Hello:
You are invited to participate in my survey "What are the benefits of using a Standardized approach to the assessment and treatment of psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department." In this survey, approximately 25 people will be asked to complete a survey that asks questions about your nursing background and the care of the psychiatric patient in your Emergency Department. It will take approximately 5 minutes to complete the questionnaire.

Definition of a standardized approach: would include obtaining a CBC, complete metabolic panel, TSH, urine toxicology, serum pregnancy if female, Breathalyzer or serum alcohol level, urine analysis if over 50 years in age, and liver function tests. These lab tests need to be considered the standard of care for all psychiatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department and should be collected as soon as possible upon the patient’s arrival in the Emergency Department in order to facilitate the best possible plan of care for this particular patient population.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you can withdraw from the survey at any point. It is very important for me to learn your opinions.

Your survey responses will be strictly confidential and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. Your information will be coded and will remain confidential. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, you may contact Michelle Galles, RN, BSN at (303) 589-5644 or by email at [email protected].
