Mayor Michael A. Nutter has established the Richardson Dilworth Award for Distinguished Public Service in Philadelphia to recognize the contributions of an outstanding public employee whose work performance embodies excellence in public service.

Up to three employees will be recognized for their outstanding commitment to public service and to the City of Philadelphia. The award categories are:

The Richardson Dilworth Award for Distinguished Public Service ($5,000)
The Dilworth Award for Excellence in Customer Service ($1,000)
The Dilworth Award for Innovation in Government ($1,000)

Eligibility:

The candidate must be a full-time employee of the City of Philadelphia government serving under the Mayor who is not a cabinet-level appointee or department commissioner.

The employee must have at least three years of continuous employment with the City of Philadelphia, be an employee in good standing with a good attendance record, positive performance evaluations from supervisors, and no disciplinary violations in the last three years.

Volunteers, temporary and contract workers, and Philadelphia School District staff working in City offices are not eligible to participate.

Please note application essays are limited to 500 words. All narratives more than 500 words will not be considered.

Award:

The winner of the Richardson Dilworth Award for Distinguished Public Service will receive a $5,000 cash prize, four free tickets to the Mayor's box for the event of their choice, and their name will be memorialized on a plaque in City Hall.

The winner of the Dilworth Award for Excellence in Customer Service will receive a $1,000 cash prize and four free tickets to the Mayor's box for the event of their choice.

The winner of the Dilworth Award for Innovation in Government will receive a $1,000 cash prize and four free tickets to the Mayor's box for the event of their choice.

All winners will be invited to attend an award luncheon in their honor.

Please note nomination "campaigns" are prohibited and will render the nominee ineligible.
