Description: U2 reached the top of the music industry in the late 1980s and has stayed there since. But over the years, the band's reach has extended into new areas: Broadway, film, television, entrepreneurial investments, and more. The last decade especially has surprised many fans with Larry launching an acting career, and Bono and The Edge helping create the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. In this session, we'll review a timeline of U2's extracurricular projects over their career, consider the band's motivations for branching out beyond rock and roll, and debate the benefits and pitfalls of U2's side projects.

Proposed format: Moderator and 2-4 panelists giving formal presentations, with audience discussion and Q&A after.

What we're looking for: We're seeking 2-4 U2 fans to be part of our panel discussing U2's extracurricular activities -- not charity work, but just about anything else.

If you're interested in the band's film soundtrack contributions and want to speak about how/why those choices have influenced U2, this would be the perfect session to do so.

If you're interested in Larry's blossoming acting career, and want to talk about what it means for him individually and the band as a whole, this is the right session.

If you're interested in the Spider-Man production on Broadway, and want to discuss its impact on U2 and/or U2 fans, this is the session.

Those are the types of presentations we're looking for.

The length of each speaker's presentation will depend on how many are chosen. If we select two speakers, more time will be available for each; if we select four speakers, each will have no more than 10-15 minutes to allow Q&A time at the end.
