Hello, hope you are well. My name is Dan Coward Im sending you this invitation to complete a questionnaire, since you may have a point of view to share on music's cultural value, downloading and CD burning. CLICK ON THE CONTINUE BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE TO BEGIN QUESTIONNAIRE. Thank you for your time. If you require more information concerning the topic this questionnaire is based on, please read on. The questionnaire is for my dissertation, as part of my final year project for a BA Hons Degree in Music Industry Management at BCUC in High Wycombe. The results section for my dissertation will be made up by charts and graphs from which I hope to gain a range of statistics, I can use to support opinions and perceived values for analysis. This is since I plan to adopt a quantitative approach, so I can suggest that a sheer number of people behave or perceive X. Therefore, I would be extremely grateful for your time and support in completing this questionnaire. Please start the survey now, by clicking on the Continue button below. Approximately 100 people will be asked to complete the survey, it will take a maximum of 5 minutes to complete all the questions. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. There are no foreseeable risks associated with this project. However, if you feel uncomfortable answering any questions, you can withdraw from the survey at any point. It is very important for me to learn your opinions. Your survey responses will be strictly confidential, and data from this research will be reported only in the aggregate. Your information will be coded and will remain confidential. If you have questions at any time about the survey or the procedures, you may contact me by email at [email protected] or phone by 0773910436 The main problem understudy in this project is based on individuals downloading or burning copies of music without paying for it, musics changing cultural use in the UK and the effect this could have on music as a cultural artefact, contributing to its social devaluing. Furthermore, this work is stimulated by and based on the school of thought that because of media and big entertainment conglomerates, our attention, leisure time and money is competed for so much more fiercely these days. Additionally, that due to these companies, technology, media and society the perceived value of [popular] music could be decreasing in the wider culture of the UK; and that this may exacerbate home piracy. My dissertation is based on suggesting that few of us fear law when it comes to infringing copyright law. i.e. None of us think twice after reading the dos and donts printed on a CD before burning a copy of it (having completed a law and intellectual property module I have a brief understanding of infringement of copyright). Im not suggesting burning music/home piracy is good or bad; accessing music for free has obvious benefits, and at the end of the day musicians steal/borrow ideas for song structure from other songs, and call them influences all the time. P.S I really will be grateful for your help. Thanks again, Take Care Danny Coward
