Dear FFSR colleagues,
In December 2011, you were asked to complete a survey on the establishment of Senior Technical Officer positions. The business case for establishing these two positions was based on:
• providing an improved operating/reporting and career development structure for technical staff • creating more time for scientists to undertake their science • the potential to achieve cost-savings through a more effective use of resources, especially with respect to the use of casual staff.
Purpose of this survey The two new Senior Technical Officer positions at Ellinbank and Hamilton have been in place for approx 12-18 months. It is now time to evaluate these positions and assess whether the anticipated benefits are being realised. The information you provided in Dec 2011 established the baseline data that we are now able to measure against.
What next? We would like you to complete this survey as the second stage to this process. It doesn’t matter whether you completed the first survey or not – your contribution and opinion are valued.
This survey is targeted at technical and science staff based at Ellinbank, Hamilton, Werribee, Tatura and Horsham. Werribee, Tatura and Horsham will primarily serve as “control groups” since Werribee has had the Senior Technical Officer role in place for 4+ years and the role is not currently in place at the other two sites. Tatura and Horsham provide the added benefit of having staff from both platforms based there.
We are not seeking to identify any individuals through the feedback provided. The only distinction we need to draw is between the feedback provided by scientists and technical staff, and the location at which they are based.
The survey should only take about 5-10 minutes of your time. We appreciate your contribution to this important decision making process.
