The Department of Primary Industries is developing a strategy to release some of its stocks of Green Guard to certified organic growers to enable them to carry out locust treatment on their land.
This survey is being conducted to ensure efficient use of Green Guard supplies in order to treat key areas of public and private land while supplies are limited.
As a result, DPI needs to identify the area and locations of certified organic farming land in the 22 affected Shires. Advice from the organic certifying authorities is that your property/properties are located within these Shires.
Advice on your property was provided for this purpose by one of the following certification agencies:
• National Association for Sustainable Agriculture, Australia • Australian Certified Organic • Organic Growers of Australia • DEMETER
The staged hatching of locusts requires a staged Green Guard supply. Depending on the timing and need for Green guard this may result in DPI providing some Green guard stocks to you through an agriculture reseller in your region. Provision will be based on assessed need and timeframe for use. Should stocks prove to be less than demand, pro rata allocation may be required. This may mean you will have access to some or none of the DPI reserves of Green Guard, but the following questions will help the DPI determine the priority for allocations.
Please note, the information obtained from the following questions will only be used to enhance the organic industry sectors response to locusts and will be used in accordance with the Provisions of Victoria’s Information Privacy legislation.
NOTE: Not all formulations of Green Guard may be suitable under your certification system or for your intended, or future, markets (i.e. USA). If you have not already done so, you must contact your certification body to ensure you comply with all requirements before using any product.
Please contact David Rumbold, Senior Chemical Standards Officer, DPI Bendigo on 5430 4806 or [email protected] if you have any further questions relating to this survey. There will be an opportunity to provide comment at the conclusion of this survey.
