Several years ago we did a major overhaul of the QuestionPro Workforce 360 degree feedback platform. In reviewing the features and functionalities we decided to retire the spider chart (sometimes referred to as the radar chart), because we thought, possibly, that way of visualizing the data was outdated. But boy were we wrong. After many demands by our clients, the spider chart is back, looking and working better than ever!
Here are just a few ways why the spider chart can be useful in getting the most of your 360 feedback.
Multi-dimensional: 360 degree surveys always consist of multiple dimensions, or competencies. And nearly always leaders have areas of strength, and areas of development opportunity. Spider charts are one of the easiest ways to see in which competencies you excel as a leader, and which areas you want to spend time improving.
Various perspectives: Another characteristic of 360 degree reviews is that the feedback is provided by individuals from various relations to you, such as manager, peers, direct reports, self, and more. In reports, feedback is aggregated by group because we look to see whether there are systematic differences in how we interact with any of the groups compared to others. Again, spider charts can easily show whether there are significant differences in how we interact with different groups that we work with.
Actionable insights: Because different patterns are easier to detect in spider charts than from pages and tables full of data alone, subjects often identify patterns and areas where action is needed more quickly and more clearly, energizing them to take action faster.
As you can see, we took our customers’ feedback to heart, and brought back the spider chart for 360 degree feedback surveys. We hope it helps make the data for your leadership development program even more valuable.
