Quickly and Easily Gather Quantitative vs Qualitative Information in Minutes Using QuestionPro!

What's the difference between quantitative vs qualitative data?
QuestionPro makes it easy for you to start collecting both kinds of data. You can either choose from over 100 survey templates, import your own questionnaire, or you can create your own, once you've decided which type of data you need to collect, quantitative vs qualitative.

Quantitative Qualitative Data in QuestionPro

Quantitative. Quantitative data is any type of data expressed in numbers (think QUANtity). This doesn't necessarily mean that the numbers are measureable or continuous. For example, you're taking a survey and are asked to provide your phone number. Data like this cannot be added or subtracted, nor can a decimal point be added. If you were taking that same survey and were asked for your weight, this would be considered quantitative data that you could measure.

Distribute. Qualitative data on the other hand, sometimes referred to as categorical data, is a certain type of measurement that is non-numerical (think QUALity). This type of data deals with descriptions, feelings and thought. For example, if you were administering a survey about customer satisfaction and gave your respondents two answers to choose, "satisfied" or "unsatisfied", the results would be quantitative data. The results can be observed, but not measured. Adjectives like slow, fast, hot, cold, clean, and dirty, are all examples of qualitative data.

Question Types for Quantitative Qualitative Information

Customer and client satisfaction
Multiple Choice

Multiple choice gives the respondent the option of choosing either one or many answers depending on what you specify in the options. The answer options you select will determine whether they are qualitative or quantitative.

New product and services
Open Ended Text

The best way to receive detailed, qualitative information is by giving the user a text box to freely write their answer. This is especially useful in customer satisfaction surveys when you're trying to gain information relating to a particular experience.

Event planning
Ordering

This is an interesting way to receive qualitative feedback. Ordering allows the respondent to rank how they feel about a topic. For example, as a restaurant owner you could ask to rate the importance of food quality, selection, and wait time to discover the most important aspects to focus on.

Website feedback
Slider

Questions that feature a graphical slider give the respondent a cool and interactive way to answer the question, while giving you either quantitative or qualitative information. You have the option of heading the slider with numbers or with categories consisting of some sort of text (e.g. unsatisfied, neutral, satisfied).

Analysis

After you're done collecting your respondents' answers, how easy is reporting the results?
