What is sequential monadic testing?

In a sequential monadic test, respondents are presented with two or more concepts in an isolated environment. The concepts are presented in a random order to avoid order bias. Each concept is followed by the same series of questions to determine in-depth insights about each of the concepts.

To set up a sequestial monadic test in your QuestionPro account, please follow the steps below:

• Go to: Surveys >> Edit
• Add all the questions related to the concepts in separate blocks.

• Click on the Block Flow option from the Tools drop-down menu, located at the top-right conrner of the window.

• In the pop-up, you'll get the list of blocks added in your survey. Now click on any one of the Add Randomizer link to add a ranomizer section.

• In the pop-up, drag and drop all the blocks within the newly added randomizer section. Select the maximum number(3 in this example) in the Randomly display drop-down menu and click on the Save button.
  Evenly present blocks logic toggle has be deprecated as of September 30th, 2024.

• You have successfuly created a monadic test survey which will display the concepts to the respondent in a randomized order to get their response.

• Since each respondent is shown at least two concepts, the required sample size goes down, making the research more cost-effective.
• Since you require fewer respondents, this method is more suitable for researching niche markets.
• Fewer respondents also mean less time is needed to field the survey and collect data.

• Presenting multiple concepts at a time increases the survey's length, which affects the completion rate of the survey and introduces the risk of nonresponse bias to your research.
• The research may also be at risk of order bias unless the order of the concept is appropriately randomized.
